The problem

It starts with the situation you're actually in.

Sets clear expectations for what AI can and cannot do across a podcast's lifecycle, separating the parts you'll still own (your voice, judgment, taste) from the parts you can hand off (transcription, cleanup, repurposing).

You can write a blueprint, fill a backlog, draft a script in your voice, capture clean audio, edit without touching a waveform, and publish plus repurpose an episode. Each of those is a skill you've now practiced on its own.
Outcomes

What you'll be able to do.

Start with the front of the queue, not the blank screen

There are two ways to begin a recording session. In the first, you open a blank document and ask yourself, "what should this episode be about?".

clean input beats heavy editing

You wrote a script that sounds like you. Now you have to say it out loud — or hand it to a machine that says it for you.

The shift: you edit words, not sound

You hit stop on the recording. The raw file is 47 minutes long.

The scene: one file, six places it needs to go

Your MP3 is sitting in a folder, finished and clean. Nobody can subscribe to a file on your hard drive.

Inside the book

A closer look at the work inside.

What "the AI podcast machine" actually means checklist

  • Facts. Language models invent confident, false details. Any date, statistic, name, or quote an AI hands you is a draft claim, not a verified one. You check it.
  • Your actual voice. Out of the box, AI writing sounds like AI writing — smooth, hedged, forgettable. Getting output that sounds like you takes feeding it your own words, not.
  • Synthetic speech under pressure. Text-to-speech voices have improved sharply, but they still stumble on names, sarcasm, emphasis, and emotional turns.
  • Editing it can't hear meaning in. An AI will happily cut a pause that was doing real work, or leave in a sentence you meant to scrap. Some fixes you trust; some you verify by ear.

Build your real backlog in one sitting

Set aside 45 minutes and work in order: Finalize the blueprint (10 min). One page, five answers, no-go list written. Generate (10 min). Run the two prompts above; collect 30–40 raw ideas in a document. Cut fast (10 min). Delete anything off-topic or boring on first read. Don't score yet — just thin the list. Score the survivors (10 min).

Start with the front of the queue, not the blank screen checklist

  • Shows stall because the host runs out of decisions, not talent — so decide your show's shape once, on a single blueprint page.
  • The blueprint answers five things: concept, audience, format, cadence, and no-go boundaries; the boundaries are the fence you hand the model so off-topic ideas never reach you.
  • Use AI for volume — feed it the blueprint, ask for angles, fan one theme into ten formats — but never let it rank your ideas.
  • Score every candidate by hand on relevance, your edge, ease, and series potential; keep about 30, and lead with your easiest strong ideas.
  • Leaving this guide you have two assets: a one-page blueprint and a ranked 30-episode backlog.

Build your scripting routine

Do this once with a real episode and you'll have a routine you repeat weekly: Choose your format (2 min) using the comparison table above. Write down why — "I ramble, so outline." Gather raw material (8 min). Record a two-minute voice memo of yourself talking about the topic, or dump messy notes into a doc. Draft (5 min).

The blank page problem you don't actually have checklist

  • Numbers and stats — Does any figure have a source you can name? If not, cut it or say "roughly" and own the estimate.
  • Names, dates, titles — Spell-check every proper noun and confirm the date. Models routinely misremember release years.
  • Quotes — Did the person actually say it? If you can't find the original, paraphrase as your own point.
  • Tool claims — "Tool X does Y for $Z." Pricing and features shift fast in AI podcasting, so verify current capabilities on the provider's own page before you state them as fact.
  • Your own legal/medical/financial claims — Soften anything you're not qualified to assert, or tell listeners to verify it themselves.
