The problem

It starts with the situation you're actually in.

You'll see exactly what AI can do for a speech — draft fast first versions, suggest structure, adapt tone — and where it can't follow: it won't supply your memories, your judgment, or your stage presence.

It's Friday afternoon and the message lands: your sister wants a toast at her wedding in three weeks, or your manager wants you to present the team's results at Monday's all-hands. A year ago, that email might have started a low hum of dread.

Who it is for

For anyone who has to write a talk, rehearse it, and deliver it well — wedding toast to keynote.

Outcomes

What you'll be able to do.

The Intake Checklist

You'll understand why typing "write me a graduation speech" hands back something clean, structured, and completely interchangeable with the version ten thousand other people get — and what to give the tool instead.

The Read-Aloud Test

You'll find the spots where a printed draft stalls in your mouth — usually somewhere around the third sentence — instead of discovering them in front of an audience.

Reference: What "Rehearsing" Actually Includes

You'll learn why reading silently is never rehearsal. Stand up, say the first line to the wall, and the speech that behaved on screen stops behaving out loud — your voice catching on a word you've read fifty times, your place lost after the second sentence.

The Hour Before: Settle the Body, Not the Mind

Once the script is trusted in your mouth, you'll handle what's left — the room, the clock, and your own pulse.

Inside the book

A closer look at the work inside.

Bring these before you type a prompt

You're ready to draft when you can answer, in your own words: the occasion and time limit (a 2-minute toast and a 15-minute keynote are different machines), two or three real, specific details — names, moments, numbers, things that actually happened — and the one outcome you want.

The honest job description checklist

  • Supply your memories. It does not know that your sister once drove four hours in a snowstorm to bring you soup. That detail has to come from you.
  • Exercise judgment about the room. It cannot feel that a joke will land flat with this particular crowd, or that the CFO in row two will bristle at a number you haven't verified.
  • Tell the truth on your behalf. It will happily invent a touching anecdote that never happened. You are the only fact-checker.
  • Deliver the speech. Eye contact, timing, the pause before the hard sentence, the recovery when you lose your place — none of that lives in the text.

The same prompt, two outcomes

Ask a generator for a best man toast with nothing but "funny and heartfelt" and you'll get "From the moment these two met, you could tell it was something special..." — smooth and empty, because the model filled the gaps with averages.

One brief, two audiences

Take a five-minute talk about the same project win and watch two of the three inputs reshape the entire instruction set. Version A — internal team celebration. Audience: the eight people who lived it. Goal: make them feel the late nights were worth it. Tone: warm, a little funny, full of inside references.

Brief the AI like a collaborator, not a search engine

A search engine wants keywords; a collaborator wants context. When tools like Word.Studio's Speech Writer ask for the occasion, tone, and key points before generating anything, they push you toward the second mode — the more detail you supply up front, the closer the first draft lands to something usable.
